These are some of the many tools and resources that I find helpful when using Twitter and teaching others how to use Twitter for business and building a personal or organizational brand.

This page was created for a presentation delivered in December 2013 and hasn't been updated recently.

Desktop or Browser Clients

To Manage Your Twitter Stream

Obviously, you can do this via the Twitter internet page. But you have lots more flexibility if you engage with Twitter through HootSuite or Tweetdeck.

For the past 2 years or so, I've preferred HootSuite over TweetDeck as my Twitter client.

I started out using TweetDeck, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. For a while, about 2 years ago, TweetDeck seemed to slow down and that's when I switched to HootSuite. I haven't used TweetDeck in quite a while, so whatever problems I experienced have likely been resolved.

Scheduling Tweets

HootSuite will let you schedule tweets.

BufferApp is a great choice if you want to schedule tweets ahead of time. But Buffer does have limitations, especially if you want to send out recurring tweets. A more sophisticated, yet affordable premium choice is SocialOomph.

Social Oomph is another popular option with both a free and more sophisticated paid version.

Twitter Analytics & Tracking Tools

Tweriod This site will tell you when your followers are on Twitter.

TweetReach If you need data to measure the reach and exposure of your tweets but can't justify a regular monthly monitoring service, TweetReach is a great option. There's a more sophisticated (and more expensive) upgraded version for enterprise-level users.

Tweetails This is a new site that I just discovered. It's mostly interesting as a curiosity, but will provide info about your tweet length, most frequently used #hashtags, and more.

TweetBinder If you're running a Twitter campaign using hashtags, this is a great option for compiling tweets. There's a limited free version and a more comprehensive (but affordable) paid option.

Social Mention Useful (and free) if you want to track your brand's mentions across the social web.

Mention Also goes beyond Twitter to track mentions across multiple platforms. Nice mobile app, as well.

Mentions An app for Android devices. Lets you monitor Twitter, Google+ and Reddit

TweetStats Not sure if this site still has a valid API but the website is still up. It used to be a cool way to get statistics about your Twitter account. Didn't work this Fall 2013 semester when I tried to use it for class.

Mobile Apps for Twitter

Echofon was the first mobile and browser app that I used. I fell in love with Twitter as a result of my Firefox Echofon browser extension.

Seesmic is my primary Android Twitter mobile app these days. I use Seesmic Pro, ad-free version.

HootSuite also has a mobile app.

For a while, I liked Twidroid but ownership changed and I began to have problems with the app. May be called Twydroid now.

I have Tweetcaster installed as a back-up. I like some of its features but the ads on the free version can be annoying. I haven't installed the paid, pro version. More on Tweetcaster here.
